GET Saw December Revenues Reach NT$739 Million,Representing an on-Month Decrease of 3.75%

Taiwan-based solar wafer maker Green Energy Technology (GET) saw December revenues reach NT$739 million (US$25 million), representing an on-month decrease of 3.75% and on-year decrease of 15.97%. 2012 revenues were NT$9.837 billion, representing an on-year decrease of 47.16%.

According to GET, the percentage of OEM orders has been increasing causing revenues to fall slightly in December. The firm added that demand for high-efficiency solar wafers continues to rise and GET's crystal growing is currently operating at full capacity.

Taiwan-based solar cell makers have been benefiting from the growing Japan market and rising OEM orders from China-based peers. Hence most Taiwan-based solar cell makers have reported 2012 total revenues with only slight on-year decreases.

According to China-based media reports, domestic tier-one solar firms have been seeing capacity utilization rates of 80% and some have been operating at full capacity. China-based solar firms noted that in the fourth quarter of 2012, tier-one firms saw average capacity utilization rates increase 20% due to rising demand in the domestic and Japan markets.

The rising demand is due to the end of inventory clear-outs by firms and rush installations in Japan before possible incentive cuts in March. In addition, Golden Sun Demonstration Projects that were approved in 2012 by the China government have to complete installation before June 2013.

China-based media reports added that prices of polysilicon and mono-crystalline solar wafers have been increasing.
