Consumers Seem to Love The Idea of Toys Based on Characters From TV Ads

Consumers seem to love the idea of toys based on characters from TV ads – now they’re about to get another one.

Forget Compare the Meerkat plush and the EDF Energy Zingy blob; Argos is preparing to launch a range of alien toys based on the extra terrestrial family in its TV advertisements.

Last summer, Argos said it was “looking at” the possibility of turning the aliens into toys, and argued they would be different to Compare the Market’s meerkat toys, which are used for more promotional purposes.

Although the alien toys didn’t emerge last year as first believed, it seems they could find their way into stores this year.

Argos hopes to launch the line as soon as possible, following strong demand from consumers across the UK.

“The alien family from our advertising campaign has proved enormously popular with our customers and we’ve received hundred of requests for alien toys,” Marc Spence, Argos’ trading director for toys, freetime and jewellery, told ToyNews.

“We’re working on bringing them to market for our customers to enjoy as soon as we can... so watch this space.”

The toys’ strategy has not yet been revealed, but as Argos owns the Chad Valley name, it’s possible the toys could be released under that own-brand label. Check back soon for more details.
