Motor Vehicle Sales in Turkey Down 21% in The January-August

In the January-August period of this year, motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 430,158 units, decreasing by 21 percent year on year, according to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD). Meanwhile, in August of the current year motor vehicle sales in the country saw a decline of seven percent compared to the same month of 2013, totaling 62,837 units. In the first eight months of this year, passenger car sales in Turkey amounted to 317,506 units, decreasing by 21 percent year on year. In August, passenger car sales decreased by 13 percent year on year to 45,131 units.

On the other hand, in the first eight months of this year Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 569,973 units, up five percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 379,093 units, up 23 percent, both year on year. The country exported 171,731 small trucks in the period in question, down 17 percent year on year. Revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports in the first eight months of this year amounted to $15.3 billion, rising by 10 percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports totaled $4.9 billion, increasing by seven percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 288,730 units, while passenger car imports totaled 238,643 units, decreasing by 23 percent and 24 percent year on year, respectively.
