Lighting Industry Figures Met in Brussels to Formalise and Launch Lightingeurope

New European Trade Body Launches

Juergen Sturm, acting secretary general of Lighting Europe

The European lighting manufacturer associations CELMA* and the ELC* are being replaced by a new trade association called LightingEurope.

Lighting industry figures met in Brussels to formalise and launch LightingEurope, which will represent European lighting companies of all sizes. Founding members of the organisation include GE Lighting, Osram and Philips Lighting.

The body said it will aim to take advantage of the opportunities created by the changes in lighting technology and production caused by the introduction of LED lighting.

Acting secretary general of Lighting Europe, Jürgen Sturm, said: “For the first time we are uniting companies and national lighting associations. This is a great step for the European lighting industry and its ability to contribute to the shaping of lighting policies in Europe and globally.”

*CELMA’s full name is the Federation of National Manufacturer Associations for Luminaires and Electrotechnical Components for Luminaires in the European Union and ELC’s name is the European Lamp Companies Federation.
