Will The Nintendo Switch Replace The 3DS? Ninty Spills The Beans

Tags: Nintendo, Switch

Nintendo has assured 3DS owners the console will not be directly replaced by the forthcoming launch of the home/portable hybrid Nintendo Switch console.

Speaking during the company’s latest earnings call, CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said Nintendo will continue to support and make games for the popular handheld.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, he said Nintendo was confident consumers would understand the difference between the 3DS and the Switch, once the system is fully unveiled.

Of course, there is one major difference between the consoles, we know the Switch won’t have the same auto-stereoscopic 3D tech. It’s also possible the Switch won’t have a touchscreen component.

Unfortunately there’s no chance of us discovering the full extent of those differences before the end of the year.

Mr. Kimishima said there’ll be no full unveiling of the Switch’s specs or price point before the end of the year.

He also said Nintendo won’t sell the console at a loss, but would be considerate of fans’ expectations.

The CEO expects to sell 2 million units within by the end of this fiscal year, which culminates in the Switch’s launch month of March. Most of those would likely be made up by pre-orders.

Finally, during the call, Kimishima said fans would have the opportunity to sample the console before it officially goes on sale.
