The bulbs that are eligible under the program will be marked as such in the store, and the price of the bulbs is being dropped 50 cents per bulb, according to a new release from Nate Lewis, key accounts manager for Danville Utilities.

Lewis said replacing "regular" incandescent bulbs with the Energy Star-rated CFLs will give Danville Utilities customers several benefits, including:

CFLs use 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs to light homes;

CFLs last at least six times longer than incandescent bulbs;

and CFLs are not as hot and provide the same light quality and brightness as incandescent bulbs.

Lewis said the reduction in price on CFLs — which acts as an instant discount or rebate — is the newest part of the Home$ave program, which also offers rebates on many energy efficient products.

"Danville Utilities is happy for the opportunity that Lowe's provided, allowing us to bring instant discounts on CFLs to our customers," Lewis said. "With our Home$ave program, we want to make saving energy as easy as possible for our customers. With Lowe's already-low prices on CFLs, combined with out 50-cent discount or each bulb, we have made switching to energy efficient CFLs a no-brainer."
