Thermal Coal Imports Were up 15% From The Four-Month Low Reported for October

Chinese imports of bituminous and sub-bituminous thermal coal in November fell 11% year on year to 12.8 million mt, customs statistics showed Tuesday.

Thermal coal imports were up 15% from the four-month low reported for October, the data showed.

Indonesian sub-bituminous coal shipped into China was down 46% year on year to 1.985 million mt, a 65% rise month on month.

The year-on-year decrease has been attributed to a proposal by the Chinese National Energy Administration to ban low calorific value coal imports.

Indonesian bituminous imports in November were down 18% year on year to 3.538 million mt, which was 24% higher than the October figure.

Chinese receipts of Australian thermal coal rose 18% year on year to 4.719 million mt, while South African imports were up 44% to 1.229 million mt.
