Samsung Has Launched a £2k Android Flip Phone

Samsung has officially announced a high-end flip phone for China that will cost the equivilant of more than £2,300 and arrive running Android Marshmallow.

While it's probably been a while since you've seen a flip phone in the UK, particularly one that runs Android, that's not about to change any time soon, as the Samsung W2017 is headed straight for China and is unlikely to reach any other countries.

The specs are fairly unexceptional for a (non-flip) modern high-end smartphone, so that includes 4GB of RAM, dual 4.2-inch Super Amoled displays and a 12-megapixel camera on the rear. On the front there's a 5-megapixel camera for the obligatory selfies.

Samsung's brought across features from the Galaxy range like the Always On Display too, but the truly exeptional thing is the retail price of ¥20,000, which currently works out at just under £2,350. That figure comes from SamMobile, rather than Samsung, but could explain why it wasn't mentioned in the official announcement.

Of course, you could spend less than that on the new Huawei Porsche Mate 9 tie-up handset.
