Food companies including Mars, Nestle, PepsiCo, and Premier Foods have signed up to the new consistent front-of-pack nutritional label scheme introduced by the UK Government.
The new labeling scheme has been launched on food products to help people make healthier choices about the food they eat.
The system will combine red, amber, green color-coding and nutritional information to display the quantity of fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar, and calories present in the products.
All the companies will join the major retailers including Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, the Co-operative and Waitrose, in using the label on their products.
McCain Foods, which already uses front of pack, has also agreed to use the consistent label.
The development comes on the heels of detailed discussions that took place with the UK Government working with the food industry, health NGOs and other partners to agree the proposed system and what the label would look like.
Public Health Minister Anna Soubry said even though the country already has the largest number of products using a front of pack label in Europe, people still get confused by the variety of labels that are used.
The colors will be helpful for the people to make them understand the levels of nutrients in the food they are consuming.
Working with industry, through the Responsibility Deal, the Department of Health will get business taking action to reduce the amount of calories, salt and trans fat in foods, as part of the government's work to reduce obesity levels.
The new Responsibility Deal pledge will be the front of pack label that food and drink companies can sign up to and deliver.
Businesses that have signed up to using the new label already account for more than 60% of the food that is sold in the country.
