Global Solar Energy based in Tucson,Arizonza USA , a maker of flexible CIGS solar technology, announced it has secured new strategic partnerships and expanded its Berlin, Germany manufacturing facility. According to the company, the expansion of its facility will enable the high volume production and delivery of its PowerFLEX™ building integrated photovoltaic modules for commercial roofs. Global Solar contends that the modules offer twice the power per module compared to competing offerings and have a simple, lightweight design that requires no roofing hardware.

The company notes that roofing and building companies around the world have signed multi-year, multi-megawatt agreements with Global Solar. In Italy, Global Solar has partnered with ENERGYKA, ISCOM SPA and BA Energy, and is finalizing agreements with other channel partners in Europe, the U.S. and Asia. After beginning pilot operations in september at its Berlin plant, the 35 MW capacity facility scaled up to two shifts. The company plans to add a third shift soon. Also, Global Solar PowerFLEX BIPV roofing module received certification from both the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

"Our UL and IEC certifications, as well as the scale up of our plant in Berlin, allow us to start delivering the product in high volume. Our customers are well positioned in their markets and are developing innovative roofing systems using our module. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration with them,” said Jean-Noel Poirier, senior vice president of business development and marketing at Global Solar.
