New data has revealed the impact of Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch across the globe.
The latest report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech sheds light on the three months leading up to November 2014, with Apple seeing a 12.2 per cent year-on-year market share growth thanks to its new smartphones
This brought the fruity firm’s total Blighty share up to a hefty 42.5 per cent, marking the iPhone’s firm grip on western tech markets.
Android felt the UK’s uptake in Apple hardware more than most, with the report showing slipping market share for the Google-fuelled OS.
Dominic Sunnebo, one of Kantar Worldpanel ComTech’s strategic insight directors, said: “Great Britain saw the strongest share decline for Android at 6.7 percentage points.”
“The longer the new iphone models are on the market the more their appeal will extend beyond Apple’s loyal customers.”
He added: “For now customer switching from Android to iOS remains stable at 18 per cent.”

It’s not all grim news for Android however, as Android still remains the biggest market share holder across Europe with 69.9 per cent.
That’s in contrast to China, where Android holds an even more formidable 80.4 per cent of the local market.
“Xiaomi remains the biggest contributor to Android’s success as it average 30.2 per cent of sales in the three months ending in November, an astonishing 18 percentage point rise over 2013,” said Tamsin Timpson, another strategic insight director at the research firm.
In the US, 33.7 per cent of all smartphones sold during the three month period were Android, while 47.4 per cent were Apple – that’s unsurprising given Apple’s popularity in the states.
