Lexus RC F Will Become The Most Powerful V8 Sports Car in The Japanese Car's History

The Lexus RC F will become the most powerful V8 sports car in the Japanese car maker’s history when it makes its official world premiere at next week’s Detroit auto show.

Lexus uncovered its dramatically styled RC F performance coupe overnight with a full image gallery that shows off every angle of its razor-sharp exterior and high-tech, high-luxury cabin.

Despite confirming that the RC F’s aggressive fins, ducts and scoops support a high-performance V8 of unprecedented power, the manufacturer remains tight-lipped on its precise outputs.

The Lexus RC F will at least improve upon 311kW/505Nm of the previous-generation IS F sports sedan’s 5.0-litre V8, with leaked documents suggesting it’s likely to produce up to 343kW.

The RC F becomes the halo to the all-new Lexus RC coupe range, which debuted around seven weeks ago at November’s Tokyo motor show. The 164kW RC300h hybrid and 234kW RC350 are scheduled to launch in Australia before the end of the year, with the RC F set to follow in 2015.

Lexus’ signature spindle grille dominates the front end, while the bonnet (complete with intake scoop) sits higher than on regular RC models to accommodate the larger engine.

Air flow and aerodynamics are optimised with the addition of ducts beneath the front bumper and fenders, stabilising fins, and outlets behind the front wheel arches.

The RC F also features traditional stacked quad-outlet tailpipes at the borders of the broad rear diffuser, as well as an LFA-inspired speed-sensitive active rear spoiler, which automatically deploys at 80km/h for enhanced high-speed stability and traction, and retracts at 40km/h.

Three variations of 10-spoke 19-inch forged aluminium wheels are available: one hand-polished by craftsmen and two machine-polished designs.

The RC F’s driver-focused cockpit-like interior boasts unique trim, meters, pedals and seats, as well as a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel with paddleshifters.

A central meter that can be changed according to four selectable driving modes dominates the instrument cluster, of which the information, colour and text size can all be personalised.

The new high-back ‘F’-embossed sports seats are available in five leather trims, each with contrast stitching.

Full details of the Lexus RC F will be revealed at its official unveiling in Detroit on January 14.
