Microsoft Has Unveiled Two New Handsets at Mwc 2015

Microsoft has unveiled two new handsets at MWC 2015, officially introducing the Microsoft Lumia 640 and oversized Lumia 640 XL.

Targeting the mid-range market at a low-end price point – think Moto G rival – the Lumia 640 and its oversized sibling have been unveiled running Windows 8.1 alongside a modest array of specs. What’s more, both handsets will be upgradable to Windows 10 when the company’s upcoming OS lands later this year.

“The Lumia 640 is a great device for all the upcoming Windows 10 features,” Microsoft Devices head Stephen Elop stated in unveiling the handset. He added: “The Lumia 640 also comes in a super sized version, the Lumia 640 XL.

“With this 5.7-inch screen, we’re going to make it even easier to turn ideas into reality.”

Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL Features
A 5-inch handset with a 720p, HD display, the Lumia 640 will go head-to-head with the likes of the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua when it hits retailers next month.

Powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 series CPU, the 640 features 1GB of RAM alongside Adreno 305 graphics. With 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion is also available.

Keeping things simple, an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera is present alongside a 2500mAh battery.

As its name suggests, the Lumia 640 XL is an oversized iteration of its sibling.

Jumping to a 5.7-inch panel, the larger device jumps to a 13-megapixel, LED flash enhanced primary camera while also adding an increased, 3000mAh battery capacity.

Despite being the bigger of the two, the Lumia 640XL measures in at just 9mm thick.

Those snapping up either handset will also received a free 1 year subscription to Office 365.

Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL Release Date and Price
Not one to keep consumers waiting, Microsoft has confirmed both new devices will launch globally this April. Although an exact date of release has yet to be confirmed, you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to snap one up.

In terms of pricing, both devices should be relatively kind to your wallet.

The Lumia 640 will set wannabe owners back 139 euro to the 3G iteration while adding 4G LTE connectivity will see the price jump to 159 euro.

Things aren’t much more expensive on the XL front either, 3G will cost you 189 euro with faster mobile connections coming in at 219 euro.
