The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is not going to impose quotas on imports of coking coal in the first quarter of 2014 as Ukrainian coke plants and companies have undertaken to buy a considerable proportion of coking coal from local state mines, according to the Ukrainian Coke Producers' Association (UkrKoks).
As previously reported, Ukraine’s government took the decision to increase quotas on imports of coking coal in 2013 in order to improve the situation in the domestic coalmining industry and ensure the smooth operation of metallurgical enterprises. At the initiative of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry, quotas up to the end of this year were increased by one million mt, from 10.2 million mt to 11.2 million mt.
