XL Hybrids has partnered with Henley Transmission Services, a franchise holder of AAMCO automotive service centers, to certify AAMCO technicians to install and service hybrid electric conversions.
Under the deal, XL Hybrids, which is a developer of a low-cost hybrid electric powertrain designed for class 1-3 commercial fleet use, will start training AAMCO technicians in the summer of this year, and hybrid conversions will also be available at each of the Henley AAMCO facilities.
The partnership between the two companies is a large step toward nationwide availability of XL Hybrid's hybrid electric powertrain technology.
Currently XL Hybrid's hybrid electric powertrain technology, which is designed for aftermarket installation, is used in the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo and passenger vans.
The company is also expanding its product lineup to include other makes and models of popular fleet vehicles, including Chevrolet and Ford vans and pickup trucks.
Henley Transmissions president John Cutter said," XL Hybrids' electric powertrain technology allows the company to continue to offer premium solutions for the evolving needs of commercial fleet and retail customers."
The company claims that its hybrid electric powertrain technology will improve a vehicle's US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) city fuel economy by 25% and also provide a three-year payback in heavy use fleet applications, or immediate savings when combined with vehicle financing.
