At the SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition on Tuesday, September 24, Mark Vedder from NuSil Technology's Aerospace and Defense team spoke on "Improving Aerodynamics with Exterior Silicone Ice-Release Coatings in Icing Conditions with Current Deicing Procedures."
Certain exterior dimethyl silicone and fluorosilicone coatings are often specially formulated to exhibit properties that help decrease drag and increase lift in icing conditions, improving aerodynamics for safer use. Tests have shown silicone ice-release coatings to be particularly and incomparably effective at protecting aircraft and aircraft personnel from the dangers of ice adhesion and other unwanted accretion.
The SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition runs September 24-26, 2013 in Montreal, Canada at the city's convention center, Palais des congrès de Montréal. NuSil's enlightening talk on silicone ice-release coating for aircraft vehicles took place on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:00 pm in Room 513A.
NuSil's presentation is part of the session entitled Manufacturing/Materials/Structures - Aircraft Finishes, Coatings, Polymers, and Sealant Technologies (Session Code: ATC900), the focus of which "is on current issues and new developments critical to the successful development, application, and measurement in aerospace applications."
