US Raw Steel Production Fell 2.8 Percent in The Week Ending May 25

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Tuesday that US raw steel production fell 2.8 percent in the week ending May 25, following a 1.2 percent increase a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States was 1,850,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.8 percent decrease from the 1,904,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 6.1 percent drop from the 1,970,000 nt produced during the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 77.2 percent in the week ending May 25, compared to 79.5 percent in the previous week and 79.2 percent in the same week last year.
