Evolucia Light Fixtures Illuminate Hawaii's Parking Garage

Aimed Optics LED parking garage and shoebox light fixtures provide high quality and performing light making the Kailua Town Center Parking Garage an attractive location for a weekly evening Farmers Market hosted in cooperation with the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation.

Miles Nishijima, Assistant Vice President-Asset Management of Kaneohe Ranch Management, stated that this garage was built keeping the future growth in mind. It is a three level parking with 434 parking stalls. The parking garage is beautiful because of the art and sculpture included in the design by the Kaneohe Ranch Cultural Center and the Harold Castle Foundation.

The parking garage has been fitted with LED fixtures to reduce energy consumption and to promote eco-friendly measures. The EvoLucia light fixtures were chosen because the lights are directed where it is needed and avoid glare and spillage. Nishijima further added that they liked the concept because EvoLucia products are also utilized at many US military installations.

Since the garage is open on all days through out the year, with the electricity rates increasing upto19% in the past yearand labor costs going high, it was recommended to use these products to reduce costs. Clinton Abe, Sandwich Isle Marketing, EvoLucia's independent representative in Hawaii, said that they had done the analysis and recommended these light fixtures.

The parking garage is presently lit with thirty-one 90 W EvoLucia LED parking structure lights in the first floor, thirty-nine 75 W LED parking structure lights in the second floor, and roofttop with twelve EvoLucia LED shoebox lights. The rooftop was fitted with these lights since the garage is adjacent to the Hamakua wetlands, an important bird and wildlife habitat which is a federally-protected area. These shoebox lights are low-pressure sodium lights which do not disturb the migration patterns of the birds.

Nishijima further stated that the Dark Sky certified EvoLucia Aimed Optics solutions were used because they prevent spillage of light and eliminate glare. These infrared lights did not have any impact on the wetlands since these lights were directed to where it was needed.

These LED lights by EvoLucia brought the energy consumption to low as 232 kWh per day after the installation in April 2012, thus saving significant energy costs. The EvoLucia products have nearly 100,000 hour life.
