According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year Turkey's steel billet exports amounted to 195,595 metric tons decreasing by 27.3 percent compared to the previous month and down 3.1 percent compared to the same month of 2012. The month-on-month decrease in February was mainly due to the reduced export volume of 339 mt to the EU after the steel billet export volume of 17,994 mt recorded in January, which had been the highest level since November 2011.
The revenue generated by Turkey's steel billet exports in February totaled $108.5 million, decreasing 26.7 percent compared to January and down 13.5 percent year on year. According to the data released by TUIK, in February the average price of Turkey's steel billet exports stood at $555/mt, falling compared to the average of $621/mt recorded in February 2012.
In the first two months of the year, Turkey's steel billet exports amounted to 464,433 mt, rising 23.7 percent compared to the same period of 2012, with a value of $713 million, up 12.2 percent.
