Byrne Dairy Plans to Expand Its Ultra Dairy Facility in DeWitt

US-based Byrne Dairy plans to expand its Ultra Dairy facility in DeWitt, Michigan with an investment of $32m, a move which will create 50 new jobs.

The expansion includes addition of 100,000ft2 space and installation of new equipment in order to meet the increasing demand for ultra-pasteurized products, reports syracuse.com.

Byrne Dairy senior vice president Nick Marsella said that the new equipment will be installed by the end of this year and the additional space will be added in 2014.

The company had initially planned to set up a plant in the Midwest but decided to expand the DeWitt facility due to the quality of the local workforce and abundant water supply in the region.

Byrne Dairy stated that the facility uses ultra-high-temperature pasteurization process to produce coffee creamers, milk and other dairy products with a shelf life of up to 120 days and employs 130 people.

Byrne also operates an ice cream and a milk facility in Syracuse. In addition, the company is in the process of constructing a yogurt and cheese facility in Cortland. The company buys its milk supply from 278 farms within Syracuse and employs 1,300 people.
