Spring Queen Event Is Held by SACTWU for Workers

The 37th Annual SACTWU Spring Queen will be taking place on Saturday the 16th November 2013, at the Good Hope Centre.

The pageant will see 46 women, all workers in the clothing, textile and leather sectors across the Western Cape, participating and hoping to be crowned the SACTWU Spring Queen for 2013.

The Spring Queen pageant is one of the biggest events in Cape Town, with the Good Hope Centre filled with workers all celebrating the evening with banners and T-shirts emblazoned with their factory's name and the name of their Queen.

This event is the largest fashion show featuring workers as models. The experience is packed with fun and of great significance for the industry as it showcases the faces that are responsible for the manufacturing of garments, shoes and fabrics that are sold in retail stores and boutiques across South Africa.

The SACTWU Shows its Talent competition is a fresh element that has been added to the event. In its 3rd year, it is slowly receiving momentum and it aims to give ordinary workers the chance to flaunt their talents, be it through music, dance or drama.

The event allows these workers to reach their potential with the help of people from the entertainment industry. This year 5 finalists, all members or dependants of members will compete for this title.

Local performers on the evening include Karen Kortje, Mady Abrahams, Nur Abrahams, Crushanda Forbes and Jody Williams.
