Cadillac, a luxury automobile and SUV division of General Motors, has unveiled its plans to produce its XTS sedan this year and ELR electric coupe later in China.
The carmaker's move follows its expansion of luxury vehicle market, which rose 39% last year.
According to Cadillac, XTS will be built and distributed in China by Shanghai GM, GM's passenger car joint venture with SAIC, and will go on sale by the fourth quarter of this year.
GM chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said China has become the fastest-growing market for Cadillac. Last year, sales rose by 73%.
"Introducing the XTS is part of our strategy of adding one new model per year to our Cadillac lineup in China through 2016 to address the needs of luxury car buyers nationwide," Akerson said.
The company's ELR electric coupe will be powered by an electric propulsion system comprising a lithium-ion battery, an electric drive unit and a four-cylinder engine-generator.
ELR will switch its transmission mode, when the battery's energy is low, to extended-range mode facilitating driving for additional distance.
