After the success of its first only-by-invite edition in March 2014, Denimsandjeans.com Bangladesh is ready to host the second edition of the show on October 15 and 16, 2014 at Hotel Radisson Blu in Dhaka - Bangladesh.
"This edition will witness a bigger participation from worldwide manufacturers of denim fabrics and accessories, dyes and chemical manufacturers and will also witness visitations from major global denim jeans brands", says Sandeep Agarwal – CEO at Denimsandjeans.com.
A unique platform and the first of its kind in this region, Denimsandjeans.com was launched in March this year by Denimsandjeans.com to cater to the ever growing importance of this industry in the overall apparel business.
"The main objective is to enable the large ecosystem of denim supply chain to get together on one single platform", Sandeep Agarwal informs.
The first event witnessed participation from some of the renowned apparel and denim jean companies and brands like Benetton, C&A, Carrefour, Celio, Charles Voegele, Cortefiel, Debenhams, Dewhirst, El Corte Ingles, Esprit, Gloria Jeans, Grouppo Coin, H&M, HEMA, Hermes, OTTO, Inditex, Kappahl, Levi Strauss & Co, Li & Fung, Marks & Spencer, Mondial, New Times, Next, Perry Ellis, PVH, Redpoint, S. Oliver, Sainsbury`s, Target, Tesco, Tom Tailor, UNIQLO, VF Corp, etc
Sandeep Agarwal explains, "Having been associated with the denim industry for over two decades, it has been a pleasure to see Bangladesh grow into the second largest denim apparel manufacturing destination worldwide after China.
"The availability of all types of raw materials, skills and resources enable almost all major brands and retailers from EU and US to source from here, which is the main purpose behind hosting a denim fabric linked show here".
Bangladesh exports large volumes of denim apparel products to the EU, US and other countries around the world, including South America, Africa and Japan. Besides, they receive preferential treatment in EU and duty free access to markets in India and some other countries.
"The USP of Bangladesh is that most of its 5600 factories are concentrated in a limited geographical area around capital city Dhaka and the port city Chittagong. This has created the most unique cluster for denim and apparel manufacturing activities", adds Sandeep Agarwal.
"Another major factor that goes in favour of Bangladesh is its huge pool of over four million skilled and semi-skilled labour, including women, which is difficult to find in other countries", he observes.
Also notable is the growth achieved in exporting these products in 2013 despite a lot of factors and challenges. Denim apparel exports from Bangladesh surged 11.48% year-on-year to the US in 2013 and to EU by over 19.65% in the same period.
