Mr. Musadik Malik, Special Advisor on Energy to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) to come up with innovative solutions to the energy crisis.
During a meeting with APTMA central chairman Ahsan Bashir and APTMA Punjab chairman Shahzad Ali Khan at the APTMA House, Mr. Malik said the situation on ground was far worse than that projected through the media.
He said the textile industry is facing production constraints due to energy shortage in Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan and assured the APTMA leadership to put up a real fight for ensuring maximum and immediate relief to the textile industry.
However, he felt short of making any promise as he held no executive role in the Government. But, he assured APTMA members that he will put forward their grievances to the Federal Government in true spirit.
Mr. Malik presented a three-year energy plan of the Government to the APTMA members, and said that biomass and hydro power generation were the corner stones of the Government’s new energy policy. He added that the Government was aiming for a level playing field for all stakeholders in the industry.
Mr. Bashir said the Government should supply electricity at Pk Rs. 10 per unit for ensuring viability of the country’s textile industry. He added that gas supply to Captive Power Plants (CPPs) of the textile industry should continue until the Government is able to produce electricity as per its energy vision.
