The all-new Ford Transit range will launch in Australia early next year, offering commercial buyers two variants.
Comprising the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo, Ford Australia announced the new range during a special Go Further event held in Sydney today that also confirmed the next-generation Ford Mustang for local showrooms and gave previews of the upcoming Everest seven-seat SUV and 2014 Ford Falcon.
While the Transit Custom is a mid-size van intended to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz Vito/Viano and Volkswagen Transporter, the Cargo (pictured bottom) will be available in multiple roof heights, single and double cab chassis and a 12-seater bus.
Touted as providing a more car-like interior and driving experience, the Ford Transit Custom features new load-space features such as an integrated roof rack system and a load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items.
While Ford says the Transit will include the company’s Sync voice-activated connectivity system and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, full specifications for both models will be revealed closer to the 2014 launch.
The current Transit range starts at $35,990.
According to Ford, seven million Transits have been sold globally since the first model hit markets in 1965.
