Japan-Based Fujimi Incorporated Will Make a 3-Year Investment of NT$1 Billion in Taiwan

Japan-based Fujimi Incorporated will make a 3-year investment of NT$1 billion (US$34.7 million) in Taiwan to establish an R&D center initially and then a factory to produce polishing slurry used to process silicon wafers and semiconductor substrates, according to the government's Invest-in-Taiwan Service Center. Fujimi is globally the third largest producer of semiconductor polishing slurry, with Taiwan-based clients accounting for 27% of its total shipment volume, the center indicated. For polishing slurry used in silicon wafers in particular, Fujimi has a global market share of 90%, it added. In light of the large demand in Taiwan, especially from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), Fujimi in April 2011 decided to set up an R&D center in the government-developed Tongluo Science Park, central Taiwan, the center said.
