The Philippines Entails The Use of Indigenous or Native Fabrics

The Philippines province of Abra has formulated a policy that entails the use of indigenous or native fabrics in uniforms of all Abra government employees.

According to the new policy, native woven fabrics should be used in uniforms for all provincial government employees and officials, including those of the national agencies operating in the province of Abra, regardless of whether the appointment of a person is permanent, temporary, contractual, casual or co-terminous with their appointing authorities.

In line with the provincial government's efforts aimed at encouraging the use of native items of the province, especially the natural-dyed and locally woven fabrics,Resolution No.49 Series of 2012,was drafted by the Chairman of the Committee on Trade and Industry,Rosario A.Bersamin.

After analysing the benefits of adopting the resolution,Governor Eustaquio P.Bersamin approved the new policy and has directed the provincial Personnel Services Division to formulate the rules and mechanisms for implementation of the policy.

The new policy is also in line with provisions of Section 1 of Republic Act 9242,proclaiming a policy of the State to encourage patriotism and nationalism amongst people, particularly amongst public officials and employees, who at all times are expected to remain loyal to the State and its citizens;promote preferential use of domestically produced goods that use domestic resources;adopt measures that increase the competitiveness of these fabrics giving rise to prospects for enhanced employment and greater benefits to the nation.
