Rohm Co Ltd Developed an E17-Base Small Krypton Gas (Minikrypton) LED Light Bulb

Rohm Co Ltd developed an E17-base small krypton gas (MiniKrypton) LED light bulb.

Compared with existing LED light bulbs, the part near the base of the new LED light bulb, "LDA4L-G-E17," is smaller, and the shape of its globe (semispherical cover) is closer to a sphere. Moreover, the company realized a wide light distribution angle of 180° by employing an LED module (light source) having a chip-on-board (COB) structure, which does not have a reflector, even though the new LED light bulb has almost the same shape as existing MiniKrypton light bulbs.

Existing MiniKrypton LED light bulbs have small light-emitting parts and small light distribution angles. Therefore, the amounts of the lights emitted from the part near the base and from the side are small.

On the other hand, the new product, which is equivalent to a 25W MiniKrypton light bulb, is made by using Rohm's own light-diffusing material for its globe. And its light is warm and does not have directivity, the company said.

The total luminous flux and power consumption of the product are 265lm and 4W, respectively. It comes only in an incandescent color. Its designed product life (the time it takes for the luminous flux to decrease by 30%) is about 40,000 hours.

The new LED light bulb will be sold to businesses by Rohm and to general consumers by Agled Co Ltd, which is a subsidiary of Rohm. There is no manufacturer's suggested retail price. Rohm expects that its price will be slightly less than ¥2,000 (approx US$26), but the company also said that the price can be ¥1,500 or lower.
