The Spot Price of Polysilicon Has Been Increasing in Recent Weeks

The spot price of polysilicon has been increasing in recent weeks. Due to increased demand in first-quarter 2012 compared with fourth-quarter 2011, the spot price of US$25/kg no longer exists in the market, said Digitimes analyst Chihheng Liang. Polysilicon firms hope to increase price to US$30/kg, but still under negotiations with solar wafer firms, added Liang. The market continues to demand for high conversion efficiency solar wafers, hence the price diversification between China- and Taiwan-based solar wafer firms continues. Taiwan-based high conversion efficiency 156 multi solar wafers have been quoted around US$1.20-1.30/unit while China-based average conversion efficiency solar wafers have been quoted around US$1.08-1.15/unit. Solar wafers quoted under US$1.10 have become rare, said Liang. The prices of solar cells have been steady. However, it is apparent that demand has been increasingly asking for solar cells with average conversion efficiency of 17%, Liang concluded. Source: www.digitimes.com
