US hardwood lumber exports to EU countries have fallen sharply by 23% to 87, 341 m³ in the second quarter of 2012, according to information from the Foreign Agriculture Service in Washington D. C. In this vein, the regressive trend shown as early as the first quarter with -9% has clearly intensified in the second quarter. In the six-month period from January to June 2012 deliveries to the EU totalled 182, 346 m³, which equates to a reduction by 16% compared to 2011. Back in the first half of the year 2007, buyers within the EU had still taken delivery of 362, 683 m³ of US hardwood lumber. Deliveries to the EU thus roughly halved in the last five years.
