Apple Is Falling Behind Samsung in Smartphones as Samsung out-Shipped Apple 2-to-1

Apple is falling sharply behind Samsung in smartphones as Samsung out-shipped Apple 2-to-1 in the quarter, according to IDC.

IDC estimated Samsung's Q2 shipments at 50.2m units with a market share of 32.6.Apple says it sold 26m iPhones in Q2.and Apple's market share was 16.9%.

Strategy Analytics estimated Samsung's Q2 units at 50.5m with market share of 34.6%

IDC put the Q2 smartphone market at 146m units representing 32%y-o-y growth.

Earlier this week Apple's shares fell after sales of its iPhone 4S sagged,as consumers waited for iPhone 5 expected in October.

However, with Qualcomm saying it can't get 28nm chips in sufficient numbers to meet demand until the end of this year, there is talk that iPhone 5 could be delayed–even into 2013.

That would be a disaster for Apple.Samsung,of course, has plenty of 28nm fab capacity of its own.

What price now for all those statements by Wall Street analysts that:'plain vanilla CMOS is a commodity obtainable from any foundry'?

Suddenly fabbing has become the key to success.
