The company supplies sachets of ingredients for the Homebrew sector, much of which is exported. It has invested in a new sachet packing machine, to which the new coders are fitted, running at speeds up to 100 packs per minute. Sachet sizes range from 60 x 85mm to 180 x 130mm.
SPL International is based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
The privately owned sachet packing specialist has recently moved to a new, 52,000sq ft warehouse and manufacturing facility.

SPL already has even Open Date coders installed across its site. They are used to print a diverse range of sachets with Best Before and Batch Codes, as well as a full print plate for ingredients, logos and other information.
“Our experience with the equipment over the past decade was a major factor in our decision,” said Birnie. “These machines give us the flexibility to handle complex printing requirements with minimal downtime for changeovers. We use Hot Foil coders for their indexing capabilities.”
Open Date Equipment said its Sprint Major offers a print area of 100 x 50mm and is the mid-range machine in the Sprint series. It weighs only 8.5Kg and can operate at 300 cycles per minute. These larger units can be used for simple graphics and text, or for spanning over more than one label or pack, according to Open Date Equipment.
