Universal Display and Plextronics recently declared their strategic alliance agreement to speed up the manufacture and commercialization of solution-based OLED material systems.

Universal Display's phosphorescent OLED emissive layer materials, and hole injection and hole transport materials of Plextronics have been incorporated within the OLED material systems. Universal Display invested $4 M in Plextronics and entered into a three-year joint development agreement with the same.

According to the President and CEO of Plextronics, Andy Hannah, this agreement is a major initiative in Plextronics' advancement endeavor to rapidly manufacture and commercialize its Plexcore materials that will support phosphorescent OLED applications. By closely associating with Universal Display, Plextronics has achieved in creating initial Plexcore HIL products for the UniversalP2OLED platform of Universal Display. These efforts made it viable to extend the partnership to include hole transport layer materials for more improved performance.

According to the President and CEO of Universal Display, Steven V. Abramson, this unique partnership with Plextronic, who is one of the leading producers of solution-based materials for OLED, the company is certain to foster more developments of advanced, solution-processible OLED material systems for integration in displays and lighting. Universal Display's UniversalP2OLED printable, phosphorescent OLED material systems when integrated with Plextronics' hole injection and transport materials will give rise to solution-based, high-efficiency OLED material systems facilitating implementation of nozzle, ink-jet, and other potentially affordable, solution-processing manufacturing techniques.
