Toyota Is Planning to Boost 4-Cylinder Engine Capacity at Kentucky Plant

Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor (TMC) is planning to increase its annual engine assembly capacity of cby 100,000 units at its Kentucky plant in US.

The plan, to be executed under $30m project, will facilitate the company to increase the capacity by August 2013.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK) currently assembles engines for the Avalon, Camry and Venza, and the increased capacity will deliver engines for the company's Camry and Camry Hybrid and RAV4 in Woodstock, Ontario.

According to the carmaker, the increase will boost TMMK's total employment to about 6,700 and total plant investment to about $5.96bn.

The investment is further expected to increase engine production at the Kentucky plant to about 500,000 units per year and will also raise total engine production in the US to about 1.2 million per year.
