Xylem Inc. has Expanded Its Range of Medium Pressure UV Water Treatment Solutions

Xylem Inc. has expanded its range of medium pressure ultraviolet (UV) water treatment solutions with the launch of two new additions to its Wedeco Quadron series.

The Wedeco Quadron series is particularly suitable for drinking water disinfection, and can also be used for fish farming, swimming pool and wastewater reuse applications.

Xylem?s Wedeco Quadron series offers a comprehensive proof of performance, as it is validated according to the US EPA?s UV Disinfection Guidance Manual (UVDGM, 2006) and certified to the German /Austrian Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW / ?NORM).

The UVDGM-validated solution can be uniquely tailored to meet different requirements depending on the individual water or wastewater treatment situation. Mike Newberry, UV product manager at Xylem explains, ?Only Xylem is able to offer two UVDGM validated solutions. The first uses sleeves that block low wavelengths - as also required for DVGW/?NORM certification - for applications where certainty of dose delivery is paramount. The second solution uses sleeves that allow all wavelengths to pass for the maximum possible treated flow ? in line with current UVDGM guidance. Our solution enables customers to meet possible future updates in the Guidance Manual, whereas safety factors may need to be added to competitors? designs.?

?The Quadron range is ideal when available space is at a premium. Its distinctive hydraulic design features allow for easy installation in existing or small site conditions,? concluded Newberry.

Xylem?s new Wedeco Quadron 600 and 1200 units manage flows of up to 1,350 m?/h and 2,100 m?/h (8.6 and 13.3 mgd) respectively. A standard feature across the range is the ?OptiCone? flow diverter, which promotes ideal hydraulics with very low head loss regardless of inlet piping conditions. Quadron is fitted with the Wedeco Multiray UV lamps that boast an industry-leading life of 8,000 hours, even when operated in dimmed mode, which reduces lamp replacement by as much as 30 percent. Automatically adjustable UV output from 30-100 percent ensures the system operates at maximum efficiency keeping energy and running costs as low as possible. The automatic wiping device keeps the UV lamp sleeves clean, guaranteeing a consistent high level of disinfection.

As medium pressure UV treatment systems use higher power UV lamps they consist of fewer lamps than low pressure systems. This means that the former are more compact in size and, as a result, often involve lower installation costs. While low pressure solutions can have a lower operating cost over the lifetime of a system they may be more expensive to install initially. A full lifecycle cost analysis is recommended in order to choose the best system for each specific application.
