Highgear Has Been Shuttered at Least for Now

Highgear, the maker of performance watches, navigation tools and accessories owned by Implus, has been shuttered at least for now.

"At this time, our Highgear division has been closed,” said Alden Mills, president of Perfect Fitness, also part of Implus, in an e-mail to Sports Executive Weekly.

Mills said that while Implus will still support all warranted products out in the marketplace and in use by customers, the brand is not planning any further product offerings at this time.

"For over 15 years, Highgear has been devoted to providing the best solutions for outdoor adventurers, but we have recently been experiencing a lack of opportunity and interest,” said Mills. “We have instead focused our attention to Implus’ Fitness Division (Perfect Fitness, FitDeck and New Balance Sports Monitors), which we feel is a great option for active athletes.”

The move comes as Perfect Fitness is making a push into the wrist wearables space with the launch of the Perfect IQ, a wristband that tracks activity, steps, total calories burned and sleep time. The device wirelessly syncs with the user’s smartphone using Bluetooth Smart technology.

The licensed New Balance sports monitor segment also has three brand new items launching this fall: LED Sport Armband (for iPhone 5S and older), LED Magneto Safety Light and NBX 1010 Smart Band.

Implus acquired Highgear, which also operated the licensed New Balance line, in 2009, marking Implus' first expansion beyond footwear accessories. Implus’ brand family also includes Sof Sole, Yaktrax, Apara, Airplus, Sneaker Balls, Sof Comfort and Little Hotties.
