The all-new Honda Odyssey will be offered with a first-ever eight-seat option when it arrives in Australian showrooms in February.
Honda Australia confirmed the new eight-seat variant would be offered alongside the regular seven-seater in the new fifth-generation Odyssey range, which launched in Japan a few weeks ago.
As previously revealed, the new Honda Odyssey will also become the first for our market fitted with sliding rear doors, moving away from the front-hinged layout adopted throughout the nameplate’s previous 20 years. High-grade models will feature a one-touch power sliding function.
Already confirmed to feature a re-engineered 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), Honda Australia says combined cycle fuel economy will improve more than 14 per cent to 7.6 litres per 100km, while CO2 emissions also fall to a claimed 178g/km.
The low-slung profile of its predecessor makes way for a 135mm-higher roofline (the new model is 1685mm tall), with Honda promising gains in interior space and passenger comfort.
At 4830mm long and riding on a 2900mm wheelbase, the fifth-generation Honda Odyssey is also 50mm longer overall and 70mm longer between the wheels than the old model.
Daytime running lights, a reversing camera and new audio systems will feature in the new model, though Honda Australia is yet to confirm if it will offer the emergency braking, blind spot monitor and auto reverse parking technologies available in Japan.
Full pricing and specification details will be revealed closer to the Odyssey’s February launch.
