Honda Is Planning to Invest $200m at Two Ohio Facilities in US

Japanese carmaker Honda is planning to invest $200m at its Anna Engine and Russells Point Transmission facilities in Ohio, US.

Of the total investment, about $170m will go towards Honda's engine plant in Anna, which will see addition of a new fourth engine line which will be automated with the flexibility to manufacture an engine.

The new production line is expected to manufacture a direct-injection variant of the 1.8litre four-cylinder engine which will be mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the revamped 2013 Honda Civic.

The remaining part of the investment at Anna will be used to manufacture pulley components for CVTs.

Honda revealed that the investment will also be used at the Russells Point, Ohio, transmission plant to produce a high-pressure aluminium die cast for transmission cases.

In the last two years the automaker has invested about $1.2bn in US manufacturing operations, which also includes the recent investment.

Since the start of automobile production in US in November 1982, the carmaker's investment in its auto manufacturing facilities accounts to $12.5bn.
