North America’s processor and marketer of sy seafood High Liner Foods says it is commited to the packaging in which its products are distributed.
The firm sought a solution that could affect the broadest possible spectrum of paperboard, that most widely used material, and eventually adopted the switch to EarthCoating by Smart Planet Technologies for its retail packs.
EarthCoating, from Smart Planet Technologies, is a relatively new technology that allows up to 60% of the LDPE in a barrier coating to be replaced with calcium carbonate (CaO3)
High Liner claimed it worked towards optimizing its packaging by reducing the size of its shipping cases, lightweighting its packaging materials and opting for full truckloads versus limited truckloads.
According to Smart Planet, the clear coating is said to provide up to a 60% greater Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) than 100% LDPE and offers comparable heat-seal performance and can be applied to just about any type of paper or folding carton material.
