AMT and Hydro-Quebec Announces Plans to Install a Local Public Charging Station for EVs

December 28, 2012 - Quebec’s City of Rivière-Rouge, along with the founding partners of The Electric Circuit—Les Rotisseries St-Hubert, Rona, Metro, the Agence metropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro-Quebec, has announced plans to install a local public charging station for electric vehicles (EVs) in the new year.

The charging station will be installed in spring 2013 in the parking lot of the Caisse Desjardins de la Rouge.

“We are very proud to offer this service, a first in the Hautes-Laurentides region. This measure is in line with the orientations of the city of Rivière-Rouge and its Plan Vert (green plan),” said Déborah Bélanger, the city’s mayor.

“We are very pleased to welcome Rivière-Rouge to The Electric Circuit,” added Pierre-Luc Desgagne, senior director-strategic planning at Hydro-Quebec, speaking on behalf of The Electric Circuit’s founding partners. “The Electric Circuit will grow thanks to dynamic municipalities like Rivière-Rouge that make public charging stations available.”

The Electric Circuit is a major milestone in the rollout of charging infrastructure needed to support the arrival of plug-in EVs in Quebec, said the utility. By the end of the year, more than 150, 240V EV stations will be available in parking lots of the AMT, as well as those of many Rona stores, Metro stores and St-Hubert Restaurants throughout the province.
