Global 40W Equivalent LED Bulb ASPs Rose 0.5% to US$15.30

Global 40W equivalent LED bulb ASPs rose 0.5% to US$15.30, with price increases most evident in Japan, according to LEDinside. Conversely, the global 60W equivalent LED bulb ASP dipped 0.9% to US$21.20.

The ASP for 40W equivalent and 60W equivalent LED bulbs dropped 21% and 28% on year, respectively. The decreasing LED bulb price trend is anticipated to continue in 2014, the firm said.

The rise in bulb price was most evident in Japan in January 2014, largely due to a surge in prices for select items during the holiday period. Additionally, Panasonic 6.9W bulbs rose from US$5.50 to US$9 in December and Sharp's omni-directional 10.4W bulbs increased substantially from US$21 to US$41.

In China, bulb prices declined 16.2% for 60W equivalent LED bulbs in January, affected by large drops for sales promotions. Samsung 10.8W bulbs with a luminous flux of 810lm decreased 50% in price from US$30 to US$15.

LEDinside also said it observed that bulb pricing in South Korea is stabilizing with few price fluctuations. This is mainly because of control measures implemented by the government to protect small businesses. As a result, Korea-based LED lighting makers are smaller and lack channel and cost advantages which have made it more difficult to rapidly reduce prices, the firm said.
