It is learned that UAE’s only integrated steel plant Emirates Steel is to produce 40mm rebar the match growing demand for steel in the region. The company’s CEO Saeed G Al Romaithi said that they are happy with the adding of new 40mm size to their existing range of 8mm to 32 mm because the requirements for 40mm rebar were imported mainly from Turkey. According to the data of Emirates Steel, the total consumption of rebar within the country in 2012 reached 160,000 tons per month, and the rebar of 40mm rebar, which is used mainly in constructing huge building towers, sizable manufacturing units and bridges, stood at around 2%. These figures are likely to remain the same in 2013, so the CEO is expecting Emirates Steel can grab the largest share of it against Turkish domination.
