Both the vehicles are equipped with the new two-motor sport hybrid intelligent multi mode drive (i-MMD) powertrain that has an electric continuous variable timing (CVT) engine with two motors, a clutch directly connected to the gasoline engine and a lithium-ion battery.

The powertrain offers three different engine modes to power the vehicles including the EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive.

In the EV Drive mode, the Accord Hybrid uses the lithium-ion battery to run in electric-only mode at lower speeds, while in the Engine Drive mode the engine powers the front wheels to offer medium to high speeds.

Hybrid Drive of the vehicle uses both the engine and electric motor jointly to provide more acceleration.
