Web Biotechnology Received CE Certification for The Spyder

WEB Biotechnology, a Singapore based medical technology company, has received CE certification for its cloud-based continuous ECG monitor called the Spyder.

It is claimed to the first cloud-based continuous ECG monitor available in the market. It is designed to replace conventional remote monitoring systems such as Holter ECG and function as a non-implantable loop recorder.

Spyder, attached to the chest with a single adhesive pad, is inconspicuous when worn, allowing patients to go about their daily activities while being monitored.

Spyder continuously measures and transmits ECG signals to a cloud server where they are stored. Physicians can review these rhythms via a secure web based interface. ECG data can be analyzed and reported like a traditional holter ECG.

The inconspicuous sensor allows continuous monitoring for up to three days on a single charge, increasing the sensitivity of detection of abnormal heart rhythms.

In a trial test in Singapore, patients were made to wear the system for up to two weeks at a time and these patients could move about, and even travel across borders with the system.

The main use of the Spyder system is in diagnosis of symptoms such as palpitations, where abnormal beats or rhythms may be missed when a shorter period of monitoring is employed.

The Spyder ECG is currently available in Singapore and Malaysia and the company is planning to expand its distribution network to Europe and the Asia Pacific.
