Nintendo's Wii U is currently suffering from weak shipments and its quarterly shipments are even lower than those of the Wii, the previous-generation model. Seeing the issue, most third-party game developers have decided to withdraw from developing games for the game console.
To boost sales, in addition to releasing several in-house developed games, Nintendo also decided to reduce the price of its Wii U Premium Pack to the price of the Standard Pack and will stop supplying the Standard Pack.
For handheld gaming consoles, Nintendo plans to release a new device, the 2DS in October, which is US$40 cheaper than the 3DS.
Currently, other than dropping prices or updating products, Nintendo has no other strategies that can help improve its game console sales and Digitimes Research believes that the company's business strategy in the past is the reason that caused Nintendo to struggle from its current plight.
