Large mobile operators say that sales of the iPhone 4s have slowed in anticipation of the iPhone 5, which is rumoured to be scheduled for release in September, the paper said.

The largest gain by rivals has been made by Samsung's latest S3 Galaxy smartphone, which accounted for 18% of sales in the first week of June, according to research group Gfk.

With overall sales for the Galaxy S3, Ace and Note, Samsung accounts for a 30% share of top ten handset sales, compared with 20% for the iPhone 4 and 4s in mid-June.

While Apple is still the leading smartphone brand, with a 31% share of users, data from Enders shows that Google's Android is the leading operating system with a 39% share.
