The Price of 60W Retrofit LED Light Bulbs Is Likely to Drop Below US$10/Unit in 2013

Due to rapid price drops, market observers believe the price of 60W retrofit LED light bulbs is likely to drop below US$10/unit in 2013.

According to studies, LED light bulb penetration reached 17% of the entire light bulb market in 2012. The combined share of 40W and 60W retrofit LED light bulbs accounted for 50% of the total LED light bulb market, while 75W or above with brightness over 1,200 lumens accounted for 30%. LED light bulbs are forecast to become the mainstream.

Studies showed that by the end of 2012, the retail price of 40W LED light bulbs was US$18.7/unit with the lowest price around US$7-12/unit. As for 60W retrofit LED light bulbs, the global average price reached US$30.90/unit with the lowest price at US$15/unit. In December 2012, Samsung Electronics introduced 60W retrofit LED light bulbs for a retail price of only US$15/unit in the US market.
