Trade Resources Industry Views Ocado, Carlsberg, Nestlé Waters, PLB and Typhoo have signed up to the Courtauld Commitment

Ocado, Carlsberg, Nestlé Waters, PLB and Typhoo have signed up to the Courtauld Commitment

UK companies including Ocado, Carlsberg, Nestlé Waters, PLB Group and Typhoo have signed up to the Courtauld Commitment, taking the total number of major UK brands, suppliers and retailers to 53 signatories.

The voluntary agreement is run by waste advisory body WRAP, to support businesses to improve their overall performance and reduce their environmental impact.

The three Courtauld targets include reducing the carbon impact of grocery packaging by 10% by reducing the weight, increasing recycling rates and increasing the recycled content of all grocery packaging; to reduce household food and drink wastes by 4% and to reduce traditional grocery product and packaging waste in the grocery supply chain by 5%.

WRAP director of design and waste prevention Richard Swannell said since the second phase of the Courtauld Commitment was launched in March 2010, the UK's grocery retail companies have come together to work on solutions to maximise the opportunity for a reduction in waste to the benefit of their businesses and consumers.
