In 2013 Turkey's Steel Import Volume Increased by 25.4 Percent to 14.85 Million Mt

According to a report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in 2013 Turkey's steel import volume increased by 25.4 percent to 14.85 million mt, valued at $12.81 billion, up 14.1 percent, both compared to 2012. In the given year, Turkey recorded increases in imports of all steel products. In 2013, Turkey's billet imports amounted to 3.13 million mt, up 29.8 percent, its slab imports totaled 2.29 million mt, up 141.3 percent, flat steel imports increased by 10.4 percent to 7.11 million mt, long product imports increased by 11.9 percent to 1.46 million mt, while Turkey's steel pipe imports increased by 16.1 percent to 441,000 mt, all compared to 2012. Meanwhile, in 2013 Turkey's semi-finished product imports amounted to a value of $2.91 billion.

On the other hand, in December last year Turkey's steel imports increased by 36.7 percent to 1.43 million mt, valued at $1.18 billion, up 29.2 percent, both compared with December 2012. In December last year, Turkey's billet imports increased by 59.4 percent to 390,000 mt, its slab imports rose 36.5 percent to 279,000 mt, flat product imports increased by 26.9 percent to 553,000 mt, long products imports increased by 42.1 percent to 139,000 mt, while steel pipe imports increased by 11.9 percent to 33,000 mt, all compared to December 2012.
