Cope with Making Slim, Energy Efficient, and Low Priced Direct-View Type LED TVs

Penetration rate in 2013 for low priced direct-view type LED TVs has already increased to around 50 percent. As 2013 comes to a close, various large brand TV manufacturers are already preparing to launch new models in 2014. Large Korean brands are mainly focused on releasing direct-view type LED TVs in 2014. Not only have these manufacturers made the TVs thinner by improving secondary optic lens technology, on the other hand they are also actively using higher lumen LED chips to reduce LED pcs used to meet their goal of lowering prices.

Penetration rate has already rapidly increased in 2013 for direct-view type LED TVs. Shipments of direct-view type LED TVs for large TV brand manufacturers continued to grow in 2014, intensifying competition among various companies. The key to success lies in the slim design and energy efficiency, with consideration to cost.

Many TV manufacturers invested in slenderizing direct-view type LED TVs in 2013. Once referred to as chubby TV, direct-view type LED TVs has cost advantages. With fewer LEDs used, compromise must be made in regards to width. However, OD distance can be reduced through improvements to secondary optic lens beam angles. Korean manufacturers have already reached a beam angle of 165 degrees. By not increasing the number of LEDs used, OD distance can be reduced. Slimming direct-view type LED TVs is the main focus for TV manufacturers in 2014.

Manufacturers have not only broken size restrictions for the TV, but have also continued to pursue low-cost solutions by using LED chips with higher lumens, increasing from 90lm or less up to 110lm, reducing the number of LEDs used. For 32 inch direct-view type LED TV, the use of high lumen LED chips and increased driver voltage, original 400mA has been raised to 450mA, effectively reducing the number of LEDs down to 20 chips. TV manufacturers' goal in 2014 is to continue releasing low priced direct-view type LED TVs.
